Getting around the city

Metro and FGC

Barcelona currently has eight metro lines that can be identified by the number and colour of the line: L1 (red), L2 (lilac), L3 (green), L4 (yellow), L5 (blue), L9 (orange), L10 (light blue), L11 (light green) and serve most of the city. It also has an urban and metropolitan rail network the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC), run by the Catalan government, which supplements Barcelona’s metro network. There are three urban lines (L6, L7 and L8)

Bus

Barcelona has a transport fleet of more than 1000 buses which operate on over 80 routes and connect all the city’s districts and the metropolitan area. The buses have low floors and are adapted for people with reduced mobility. Transport passes can be used on the metro, Barcelona’s tram, city-centre lines of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) and Renfe trains (zone 1).

Plan your journey in real time  TMB Maps is a very visual interactive app for iPad that we have developed to help planning journeys on public transport in Barcelona and its metropolitan area easier, with information in real time. The application locates metro stations and bus stops in the immediate vicinity, with information on each and the lines that stop there. You can choose between map, satellite or hybrid views. Information on the public transport network is downloaded to local storage to speed up communications. TMB Maps also offers the following functions:

• Where am I?: map and transport services around the user's GPS location.

• Going to: TMB's popular journey planner, which combines bus and metro networks.

• TMB iBus: tells you when the next bus is due at a stop.

• Line selector: for consulting bus and metro journeys, shows journeys combining the two.

• Favourites: to save frequent queries.

You can download the application free from the Apple iTunes Store and Android Google Play Store. It is available in Catalan, Spanish and English.

Taxi

Barcelona has a service of 11,000 taxis which can be easily identified by their yellow and black livery. A green light on top of the taxi indicates its availability. There is also a service of taxis adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Bike

The bike is an original and different means of transport to discover the city. Barcelona has fully integrated cycle lanes and you can cycle through the city’s open spaces and parks. These conditions and the mild climate are ideal for this alternative means of transport. You can choose from organised routes or bicycle hire.
